Snow Basic SV200 Violin

Master luthiers hand-crafted this Snow violin with a hand-rubbed finish on an Italian spruce top and maple back. The expert craftsmanship gives the violin a warm, smooth tone that also has plenty of power. As a violinist and violin maker, I believe the Snow instruments offer great value for our clients and are some of the bests in their class in terms of tone and playability.

At our shop, you can play this violin and compare it to other Snow violins as well as French and German instruments. However, we can also mail them to you for an in-home try-out so you can hear their fantastic sound yourself.

I am a professional violinist by training, and I have had the chance many times to hear other violinists playing on model 200. See below a description from William, who is a student at Princeton University, and has tried this instrument. In addition, please feel free to write a review on this site if you would like to participate in this conversation or just voice yourself.

We sell Snow instruments at Snow prices; however, we do certain improvements to these instruments:

  • Princeton Violins LLC. completely covers any defects on our Snow instruments for one year.

  • All instruments come with a professional sound adjustment, valued at $100.

  • For the first year of your ownership, we will do additional sound adjustments at your request, free of charge.

  • Most of them come with Pirastro strings, but we can switch the strings for you to the ones of your choice at your request and at no charge.

We also offer a collection of Snow model violins, violas, and cellos for rental.

The First of the Snow Violin Collection but Certainly Not the Least

Posted by Patrick on 23rd May 2025

I was given the pleasure to experiment with and review the Snow Violin Collection at Princeton Violins. Even though I am currently studying to graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree of Computer Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology, I have been a violinist for most of my life and have also been playing on the Snow Violin Simona model specifically for the past 7 years. I believe that I come from a standpoint of being somewhat of a violin aficionado and would like to share my expertise and reviews for each of the Snow Violins. After trying them out and comparing them to one another, here is what I have to say about the SV 200 violin. If you are looking for a cheaply priced student violin that absolutely does not sound like the price (in a good way of course), this very well might be a steal for you. The SV 200 does not by any means sacrifice quality for price, featuring a crisp sound that is easily delivered with just the stroke of a bow. Perfect for students looking to unlock their potential, this violin even compared to the Simona has a lot going for it. Great for cleaning up tricky passages and making them sound smooth, or standing out at recitals, there are many possibilities that this violin can unlock for any student, and for the price it is the perfect introductory instrument of the Snow Violin Collection.

In my opinion, I think the violin has a very bright and powerful sound. Furthermore, I personally found the violin to maintain its crisp sound even on the high registers of the E and G string.
