Professional Character with a Refined Tone

Posted by Patrick on 23rd May 2025

I was given the pleasure to experiment with and review the Snow Violin Collection at Princeton Violins. Even though I am currently studying to graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree of Computer Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology, I have been a violinist for most of my life and have also been playing on the Snow Violin Simona model specifically for the past 7 years. I believe that I come from a standpoint of being somewhat of a violin aficionado and would like to share my expertise and reviews for each of the Snow Violins. After trying them out and comparing them to one another, here is what I have to say about the PV 900. Moving into the upper half of the SV Collection, the PV 900 really features the ability of Snow Violin to make bold, striking, and impressive violins for their price. It was clear to me that the level of craftsmanship and potential for a powerful sound is really put to an emphasis on the PV 900, and is a violin that is suitable to play with ease and brilliance for conservatory-level players and even serious performers. It features an incredible vibrancy and strength of sound making it well worth the price, and is respectively the best Snow Violin considering any playing level. The reason I say considering any playing level is because the Simona can generate just as powerful and brilliant of a sound but it requires more precise articulation and deeper understanding of how to achieve your desired sound in order to get the same result as the PV 900. The intricate European spruce and maple body looks incredible with the rich antiqued varnish which is classy and striking. If you want a violin that continues to impress you, able to serve you into even professional playing territory, and even looks as great as it sounds, consider trying out the PV 900.

In my opinion, this Snow violin needs to be played with a lot of confidence. I found that the violin could also produce a nice, clean sound whether it is fortissimo or pianissimo.
